How is this eye opening? And let's not act like the employer is just sitting there and making money off your labor for nothing. They take all the risk, they pay payroll taxes and unemployment, they buy the marerial and equipment, they build the customer base and provide the platform for your labor to even create any value in the first place, they are the ones to eat the cost if an employee screws up, they work essentially 24/7 because at the end of the day its there name and reputation that the business displays... All of this so you as an employee can have a stable and reliable paycheck without having to learn all the ins and outs of business and jump through all the government hoops. When you clock out you go home and thats it. The businsss owner doesnt really get that luxury. If it was as easy as he makes it sound in his lecture - everyone would be the employer. So much stuff goes on behind the scenes that the employee doesnt have to consider at all. They just show up and collect a check. Capitalism isnt the problem inherently. Monopolies and consolidation are. We've let too many conpanies get waaay too big and they now have an iron grip on the market. Small businesses can't compete and now istead of having a boss who is your neighbor and has roots in the same place you do and is someone you can have a meaningful relationship with who cares about you as a person you're essentially just another number to some faceless multibillion dollar corporation.
